“News in Spanish is part of our Hispanic heritage”

Las Vegas- Journalist Grace Oria believes that, due to the diverse immigration that exists in the United States, Hispanic media are an unstoppable news-generating engine. “There are more and more readers and viewers who consume news in Spanish, either because it is in their native language or because they feel more identified with the journalistic style of Latin American countries,” added the Venezuelan journalist based in Las Vegas. After leaving his native Venezuela, Oria has sought diversification in his career as a journalist in the United States, since from the written press and digital journalism he successfully ventured into Television production with Telemundo Las Vegas, which is part of the group NBCUniversal. She is currently a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) and serves as a jury in different journalism categories at the Emmy Awards. Oria maintains that the commitment that Latino journalists have with their Spanish-speaking audience grows more every day. “I have colleagues from different Latin American countries who, like me, are committed to doing quality journalism in the United States: it is part of our Hispanic heritage. I think that is one of the reasons why the number of news consumers in Spanish is growing every day,” added the Telemundo Las Vegas web editor.
