InterCulturaling Founder Elda Acevedo Estefania on Why Culture Is the Key to Connection

If you have ever been misunderstood in a conversation, struggled to connect with someone across a difference, or sensed unspoken tension in a room—you have experienced culture at work.

For Elda Acevedo Estefania, founder of InterCulturaling, those invisible moments are exactly what her work brings to light.

A Journey Across Borders and Disciplines

Elda’s upbringing in Puerto Rico, combined with international education and professional work across sectors, shaped her perspective early.

Her expertise is not just academic—it is lived, applied, and refined through years of helping others build trust across cultural differences.

“I realized there was no word for the intentional effort people make to connect across cultures,” she says. “So I created one. InterCulturaling—a verb that describes the act of communicating with someone from another culture.”

From Invisible Insight to Actionable Offering

Turning a deeply human, intuitive ability into a scalable brand was no easy task.

“You cannot sell culture in a box,” Elda notes. “But you can create space for people to recognize how it’s already showing up—in communication, leadership, and everyday decisions.”

Through storytelling, client impact, and persistent refinement, she transformed InterCulturaling into a practical, teachable framework.

Breaking the Mold

Rather than fit into preexisting categories like DEI or corporate training, Elda created her own lane.

“This is not a compliance tool. It is a lens for life.”

That shift allowed her to build a business that resonates across industries and identities.

Insights for Emerging Leaders

Elda encourages aspiring entrepreneurs and professionals to start with the problems they understand personally.

“Your unique insight is your competitive advantage. Speak from it, build from it.”

And above all, she says, trust the slow build. “One moment of transformation is more powerful than a thousand clicks.”

A Business That Mirrors a Life

Her family often jokes that she sees the world through a cultural lens 24/7. She does not deny it.

“Culture is not a job for me. It is the lens I use to parent, lead, and connect.”

Now with her children grown and her husband increasingly involved in the mission, the work is expanding—and more integrated than ever.

Scaling with Purpose

With an online course, a schoolwide and team based training program, and new collaborations across business and nonprofit sectors, InterCulturaling is poised for national and international growth.

A book is on the horizon, and her speaking platform is growing.

“This work has always been inside me,” she says. “Now I have the language to share it.”
