When Nick Edwards founded My Leadership Coach, it wasn’t with the ambition of building a brand empire. Instead, it was born out of frustration—years spent watching leaders with enormous potential falter because they lacked the systems, clarity, and development they needed to thrive.
“I was tired of seeing businesses, churches, and organizations struggle with communication and consistency,” Edwards explains. “That pain clarified my true calling: to empower leaders, strengthen teams, and shape legacies.”
Today, his firm serves executives, entrepreneurs, and business owners looking to align personal growth with professional excellence.
The Hidden Challenge: Marketing Yourself
One of the biggest hurdles in the early days wasn’t delivering value—it was communicating that value. Coaching is intangible, and for Edwards, the idea of promoting himself felt uncomfortable.
“As a coach, you’re not selling a product on a shelf. You’re asking people to trust that you can help them reach their next level,” he says. “That was hard for me to market without feeling like I was making it about me.”
Despite the discomfort, referrals began to flow. And with each satisfied client, Edwards discovered the most powerful marketing strategy wasn’t slick campaigns—it was word of mouth rooted in transformation.
The Defining Leap
For many entrepreneurs, the hardest decision is when to fully commit. For Edwards, that moment arrived when his coaching calendar grew too crowded to balance alongside his full-time job.
“When clients started referring me to other businesses and I couldn’t fit them in, I knew it was time,” he recalls. “I set a date, quit my job, and went all in.”
That bold step from part-time pursuit to full-time mission set the trajectory for growth—and proved that clarity and conviction often outweigh comfort.
Lessons for Aspiring Founders
Asked what advice he’d give to those struggling to establish their brand, Edwards is direct:
-
Clarity comes first. Define success and what it looks like for you.
-
Action beats perfection. “There is no success without getting started.”
-
Persistence pays. Resistance is part of the journey—endurance is what separates those who succeed from those who quit.
It’s a philosophy rooted in simplicity but backed by lived experience.
Beyond “Balance”: The Case for Mastery
Edwards takes a contrarian stance on one of the buzziest topics in entrepreneurship: work-life balance. “Balance is a myth,” he says firmly. “The goal isn’t splitting your time evenly—it’s being fully present where you are.”
For him, stress management and resilience come down to three commitments: learning something new daily, choosing intentionally where to invest time and energy, and adding value in every interaction.
“If you win in business but lose at home, you’ve lost,” he says—a reminder that leadership starts with presence, not profit.
On the Horizon: Big Dreams, Small Steps
Looking ahead, Edwards is gearing up for two major milestones. His forthcoming book, Big Dream, Small Steps, challenges leaders to think bigger while breaking ambitions down into achievable actions.
In fall 2025, he’ll also debut Leading Forward, a podcast exploring leadership through the lens of faith, featuring conversations with entrepreneurs who’ve fused belief with business success.
Both projects reflect his broader mission: equipping leaders not just to achieve results, but to build lasting impact.
