At a time when generational divides dominate headlines, a new documentary is taking a different path. Rather than analyzing Gen Z from a distance, Raquel is creating space for young people to speak for themselves. Her upcoming film, I Hear You, Gen Z, centers on one powerful idea: listening without interruption.
Turning Conversations Into Connection
The concept behind the documentary is both simple and radical. Raquel set out on a cross country journey, traveling in an RV to meet young people where they are. From cities to small towns, she engaged individuals between the ages of 16 and 26 in honest, unscripted conversations.
There was no predetermined narrative. Instead, participants were encouraged to share their thoughts openly, offering insight into their lived experiences. The result is a collection of voices that reflect the complexity, resilience, and depth of a generation often misunderstood.
This project builds on Raquel’s ongoing work in youth advocacy. Through more than 160 conversations with Gen Z, she has reinforced her commitment to creating meaningful dialogue. She also hosts two podcasts that extend this mission. Raq The Boat features guests under 18, while Rated Gen Z highlights voices from ages 18 to 26, providing platforms where young people can speak freely across different stages of life.
Challenging the Narrative Around Gen Z
Public discourse frequently frames Gen Z as a problem to solve. From economic uncertainty to mental health challenges, the generation is often discussed through a lens of concern rather than curiosity.
I Hear You, Gen Z challenges that approach. Instead of positioning young people as subjects of analysis, the film presents them as storytellers. It invites audiences to listen directly, without filters or assumptions.
“The most powerful thing an adult can do right now is stop talking and start listening. That’s what this film is about,” Raquel explains.
By shifting the focus from commentary to conversation, the documentary offers a more human perspective on what it means to grow up in today’s world.
A Collaborative Effort Rooted in Purpose
The film is a collaborative effort, with filmmakers Brian Mulvey and Seth Tucker working alongside Raquel to bring the project to life. Together, they capture the voices of approximately 30 Gen Z participants, each contributing a unique perspective.
Behind the documentary is Raqvision LLC, a San Diego based youth empowerment brand dedicated to amplifying the voices of young people. Through media and storytelling, the company creates platforms where youth can express themselves authentically and be heard without judgment.
Looking Ahead
Set for release in summer 2026, I Hear You, Gen Z is currently exploring opportunities for streaming and film festival distribution. While the final release details are still being determined, the film’s message is already resonating.
In a world filled with noise, this documentary offers something rare: the opportunity to listen. By giving Gen Z a platform to share their truth, it bridges gaps, fosters understanding, and reminds audiences that sometimes the most impactful action is simply to hear someone out.
