Confidence is often discussed as something people either possess or lack. Some women appear comfortable making decisions, pursuing opportunities, and expressing themselves, while others hesitate even when they have the experience and ability to succeed.
Calgary entrepreneur and certified neuroplasticity coach Cicilia Hartley believes confidence deserves a closer examination. In her work with women, she focuses on the internal conversations and repeated behaviours that can influence how people perceive themselves and respond to challenges.
As founder of Pattern Shift Coaching, Hartley uses principles of neuroplasticity and behaviour change to help clients recognize patterns that may be limiting their personal and professional growth.
On December 2, 2026, she will join two Calgary entrepreneurs at aspiHer Women’s Business Club for Creating a Beautiful Life, an event exploring how women can approach their thinking, personal presentation, and living environments with greater intention.
Confidence Is Often Shaped by Repetition
Hartley’s interest in the connection between thinking and confidence is deeply personal.
In 2019, she was navigating several major challenges simultaneously. A Type 2 diabetes diagnosis, significant weight concerns, debilitating anxiety, and job loss had disrupted her sense of stability.
At the time, she was 80 pounds overweight and struggling to regain control of her circumstances.
She began exploring neuroplasticity and the role of habitual thinking in shaping behaviour. Her studies led her to reconsider the way she spoke to herself, responded to difficulties, and approached personal goals.
The changes that followed were substantial.
Hartley lost more than 60 pounds, improved her health, rebuilt her confidence, progressed in her executive career, and established a coaching business dedicated to helping other women make meaningful changes.
Her experience influenced a central belief behind Pattern Shift Coaching: confidence can develop through repeated actions and new ways of responding to familiar situations.
What Happens When Women Question Their Old Beliefs?
For Hartley, the process begins with awareness.
A woman may have spent years believing she is incapable of maintaining healthy habits. Another may hesitate to pursue professional opportunities because she has repeatedly questioned her abilities.
Those beliefs can influence decisions long after the circumstances that originally shaped them have changed.
Hartley’s coaching encourages women to identify such assumptions and examine whether they continue to serve a useful purpose.
Her approach combines self-talk, behavioural exercises, and principles drawn from neuroplasticity. Through individual coaching, workshops, and Pattern Shift Labs, she helps clients practice new responses to situations that previously triggered hesitation or avoidance.
One of her tools, The Six-Minute Rewire™, provides a structured exercise for recognizing and interrupting automatic thinking patterns.
The intention is to make change approachable enough to practice in ordinary life, where habits are reinforced through repeated decisions.
Personal Progress Beyond the Coaching Session
Hartley’s clients have described improvements that extend into their relationships, routines, and everyday confidence.
Cathy, one of her clients, previously avoided social occasions because of anxiety surrounding food. Within six weeks of coaching, she reported becoming comfortable attending meals and reconnecting with the people around her.
Another client, Cindi, described feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about her goals before beginning coaching. Two weeks later, she reported greater happiness, improved routines, and a renewed willingness to take action.
In Pattern Shift Labs, a participant described moving away from the belief that she hated exercise and becoming more open to physical activity.
While these experiences are individual and cannot establish the effectiveness of coaching for everyone, they reflect the practical outcomes Hartley aims to support.
An Event That Connects Mind, Presence, and Home
At Creating a Beautiful Life, Hartley will present Rewire Your Future: Change the Way You Think, Change the Life You Create.
Her session will examine how self-talk and automatic thought patterns influence the choices women make.
Leslie Woods, founder of a personal styling business, “A More Interesting Age with Leslie”, will approach confidence through personal expression, exploring how intentional style can influence the way women present themselves.
Cindi Banman, founder of Genesis Organizing, will discuss how organizing physical spaces can help reduce overwhelm and create more supportive home environments.
Hosted by aspiHer Women’s Business Club in Calgary, the event brings these perspectives together for women interested in personal growth as they prepare for 2027.
Creating a Different Relationship With the Future
Hartley’s message is especially relevant to women who have spent years repeating the same resolutions without seeing the progress they hoped for.
She encourages them to begin by observing their existing responses rather than judging themselves for having them.
“Change your pattern and you change your future,” Hartley says.
Her own journey provides the personal foundation for that belief. Having rebuilt her health, confidence, and career after a difficult period, she now encourages other women to consider how small, consistent changes might influence the direction of their lives.
