The question that opens Kerri Hermary’s keynote is deliberately uncomfortable. She asks audiences whether they believe their thoughts and emotions can influence their physical health, then invites them to consider the possibility of healing.
It is an introduction rooted in her personal beliefs and experiences, rather than a claim of medical certainty.
Hermary, known as Kerri the Button Lady, is a stage 3 triple negative breast cancer survivor, spiritual mentor, and creator of Gamma Healing. After 17 years of working with individuals interested in emotional and spiritual development, she is preparing to bring her story to speaking audiences.
Her presentation traces a journey through domestic abuse, lingering resentment, cancer treatment, and the emotional decisions that shaped her recovery experience.
At its heart is a question about what happens when someone decides that a painful chapter will no longer determine the direction of their life.
A Diagnosis That Reopened Old Wounds
On September 7, 2022, Hermary learned she had breast cancer.
The diagnosis followed two earlier experiences with noncancerous breast lumps during an abusive marriage. Her third lump appeared seven years after her divorce.
For Hermary, the news brought an emotional history she had struggled to leave behind into sharper focus.
She recalls years of anger toward her former husband and resentment over the life and possessions she felt she had lost.
Initially, she blamed him for the illness. Later, she began questioning her own relationship with those emotions.
Hermary believes her unresolved anger affected her body. While this belief informs her spiritual practice, it should not be confused with established medical evidence. Breast cancer is not known to be caused by anger, and responsibility for developing the disease does not rest with the patient.
Her reflections nevertheless became an important part of how she understood her experience.
Applying Her Own Gamma Healing Practice
Hermary had already spent years teaching Gamma Healing before her diagnosis.
The spiritual modality focuses on what she describes as releasing stored cellular memories associated with traumatic or emotionally difficult experiences.
Through the practice, she encourages individuals to explore the beliefs and feelings they continue to carry, particularly those connected to resentment, blame, and fear.
During cancer treatment, Hermary turned to the same approach.
She underwent approximately three months of chemotherapy and later a double mastectomy. Alongside medical care, she devoted considerable attention to examining her anger and processing memories from her marriage.
Her treatment period was physically demanding. She describes months of difficulty eating and the challenge of making decisions while seriously ill.
In January, an ultrasound showed that her tumor had shrunk substantially. Following surgery, Hermary recalls receiving results indicating no remaining evidence of cancer.
She regards that experience as deeply meaningful. However, Gamma Healing has not been clinically demonstrated to treat cancer, and her account cannot establish which factors produced her medical outcome.
The Conversation That Changed Her Outlook
Among the moments Hermary discusses in her keynote is a meeting with a friend who had previously experienced breast cancer.
Hermary wanted to understand why the illness had happened to her after everything she had already endured.
Her friend responded by challenging her to consider what she would do next.
At first, Hermary found the response difficult to accept. In time, she came to see it as an invitation to reclaim a sense of personal agency.
That conversation became central to her understanding of resilience.
Her keynote explores the difference between recognizing the harm someone has experienced and allowing that harm to govern every future decision.
For Hermary, releasing anger did not mean denying the abuse or minimizing its consequences. It meant reconsidering how much emotional space she wanted those memories to occupy.
A Personal Story With a Public Purpose
Hermary’s transition into speaking builds on her established work as an intuitive teacher, author, and spiritual mentor.
Her professional background includes her distinctive button readings, the Inner Knowing Method, and her 2019 bestselling book Energy & Weight Loss.
She has also launched Kerri the Button Lady Academy, an online membership community offering spiritual education and opportunities for personal reflection.
Public speaking gives Hermary another way to communicate the experiences behind her teachings.
Her keynote is particularly relevant to conversations about resilience, surviving adversity, emotional recovery, and rebuilding a sense of identity.
She approaches those subjects through her own story, acknowledging the difficult circumstances that shaped her while emphasizing the decisions she made about how to move forward.
For Hermary, surviving cancer became a chapter in a longer journey toward reclaiming her life.
Now, she wants to share what that journey taught her.
