Brittany Delaney and Chrissy Akins didn’t set out to disrupt healthcare. They simply wanted to heal people the way they believed medicine was meant to be practiced: with time, empathy, and trust.
As nurse practitioners working for a large corporate clinic system, they saw how bureaucracy often overshadowed patient care. So they launched Inicio Wellness, a clinic rooted in holistic and functional medicine. The name—Latin for “a new beginning”—embodies their mission to help patients reclaim their health while reclaiming their own autonomy as providers.
Turning Challenges Into Catalysts
The early months were grueling. They had no formal business training and faced complex regulations, lean resources, and slow patient flow. Instead of scaling prematurely, they focused on delivering exceptional care to every individual, knowing that trust—not advertising—builds lasting growth.
“The logo matters less than the experience,” Akins emphasizes. “Patients choose people, not just clinics.”
Their persistence paid off. Positive word of mouth spread rapidly, and local Chamber of Commerce support boosted their profile. A key turning point came when they hired Dr. Amir Baluch as their supervising physician—who unexpectedly became a mentor and entrepreneurial role model.
Beyond Burnout: Thriving With Purpose
While juggling patient care and business duties can blur work-life boundaries, they combat burnout by outsourcing non-clinical tasks, automating workflows, and leaning on each other.
“It’s challenging,” Delaney admits, “but seeing the good we’re doing makes it all worth it.”
Scaling With Soul
Now operating in Texas and expanding to Utah, Delaney and Akins aim to build a national presence while staying true to their values. They’re exploring innovative partnerships like genotyping services and InsideTracker collaborations to personalize care even further.
“We want to lead by example,” says Akins, “showing that ethical, patient-centered care can also scale.”
